Peridot is a volcanic gem the color of fresh green springtime leaves, having historically it has been associated with light. It was referred to as the "gem of the sun" in Ancient Egypt. In some rare cases, peridot has been discovered in meteorites. Traditionally the birthstone for August, extra care needs to be taken when wearing and cleaning peridot.
