In 1985, my soon-to-be-husband and I came to Pavé based on a high recommendation. We chose gold bands with a hammered texture. Michael encouraged us to hammer a little on each other's rings before he put on the finishing touches. It is a pleasure to write a description of Michael's designs at Pavé. The quality of his ART has sufficient gravitas to be reminiscent of Lalique, Tiffany, and Art Nouveau. Lalique is liquid and lush. Tiffany is elegant and elemental. Art Nouveau is opulent and organic. Michael's work has a similar impact. It is strong and sensual with a sense of the transcendent. The designs are unique, the gems well chosen, and the construction solid. Within the tiny spaces of jewelry he creates masterpieces of form and light. This is quite an achievement given the limitations of space and form imposed by the medium. If you want to wear your personal renaissance, Pavé is well worth checking out.

This review is for something simple so I will keep it short. I went to Pavé to get a possible appraisal of recent engagement ring I purchased (not at Pavé). I was also considering a rhodium dip and cleaning. The professional looked at my ring and advised it was not in need of a dip, taught me the difference, checked my ring for integrity, and cleaned it. Then, she brought it back to me in a nice gray box- much better than the box I had. I asked her the price but she said it was a gift for my engagement. Their kindness and professionalism really touched me at an important time in my life. And, although I'm an under-paid high school teacher, when I come into my cream I'm going to come back and put some more rocks on my beautiful wife.

As an insurance agent, I am always encouraging clients to do 2 things - estate planning and jewelry appraisals.so I figured it was time to follow my own advice. I made an appointment with Michael, the owner to review a batch of inherited items that I wanted to list in my trust as special bequests. Michael helped me think about the pieces in new ways - some to pass along now (with repairs) and some to repurpose/redesign to my taste/style - and to pass along in the future. No, I didn't go to Jared. Every kiss does NOT begin with Kay. For me, I have a designated jeweler, and its name is Pavé. Every person who's significant other is a female should have a go-to jeweler. Jewelry is not something you do comparison shopping for, unlike appliances. No two rings are the same, unlike picking out a toaster. Sure, you can understand what a 2-carat Princess cut diamond may cost, but how it is presented on a ring, what's around it will vary based on who the artist/designer is. What is the most important, is for a jewelry store to understand the taste of the person you are shopping for and trust that the shop offers you their craft at a reasonable cost. Pavé has my trust.

I show up once in a while to add ear rings on my wife's "wishlist," and when I am ready to purchase (holidays, birthday, anniversary, etc.) I just show up and pick one out. Pavé is a solid store (a popular one because all of my wishlist items would disappear within 3-5 months, all sold out) My wife even got smarter and she would add her own choices to the wishlist.

I have had equally fabulous experience at both the Berkeley and the Rockridge locations, so I feel comfortable in posting the same review to both. You pretty much have to shop at both, to expand your wishlist because their selections do not overlap, at least the ones I put on the list.

I strongly and emphatically recommend Pavé to be your go-to jeweler. You won't regret it. Call me old-fashoned, and the idea of having a jewelrer came from my father-in-law. He has recently passed away, but his legend lives on with me. So ignore all the negative reviews (there aren't many) and take it from me. Pavé will be the one for making your life complete.

For you single women - I also highly recommend Pavé. You can gift yourself the most fabulously crafted jewelry to accentuate your inner beauty.

We got our wedding rings here. We just knew we wanted to go there, it was like a magnet pulling us. The jewelers/salesfolk could not be better -- we felt like family by the time we picked up our rings. (Which were INCREDIBLE, BTW.......my groom picked out a stock design and personalized it; I designed my own with their assistance.) If you need fine jewelry, do yourself a favor and go to Pavé. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed, unless of course you can't afford to buy everything in the store *sob!*
